What is Pollution | Types, Causes, Effects & Prevention

Here we will discuss What is Pollution, Types of Pollution, What are the Causes of Pollution, What are the Effects of Pollution & Whats is the Prevention of Pollution.

Nowadays pollution is increasing very fast. Increasing pollution is one of the biggest problems of the world, which may create very dangerous situations in the future.

Pollution is increasing rapidly in modern and technologically advanced societies as compared to small towns and villages. Life of all living organisms is getting worse day by day due to pollution.

What is Pollution

“Pollution is Contamination of anything on earth and its environment that can make it dirty and unhealthy which is also harmful to biotic and abiotic components. Mainly air, water and land get affected by pollution”

Nature is able to pure its environment by adopting different methods but when pollutants are in excessive quantity at any place then it get polluted.

Extreme heat, extreme cold, different types of diseases are main problems which are caused by pollution. Nature and its environment is always pure, clean and healthy for all types of living organisms of the earth. when it gets polluted due to any reason, it causes various types of problems for all the living organisms in the environment.

The amount of pollution in the environment is increasing very fast due to human civilization. industrialization and urbanization. deforestation and use of Chemical fertilizers are many responsible for soil and water pollution.

Exploiting of natural resources indiscriminately in whole worls, making this earth a pile of garbage and waste. Water, air and land are being polluted by throwing garbage produced due to human activities.

Types of Environmental Pollution

There are various types of pollution on the earth but these four types of environmental pollution are very harmful to the planet and its components. these pollution are very harmful to Biotic Components (Living organisms) and Abiotic (Buildings, Rivers, Ponds, Soil) etc.

  1. Land pollution
  2. Noise pollution
  3. Water Pollution
  4. Air pollution

1. Land pollution

Due to population growth, man’s living space is getting reduced, he is fulfilling his need for living space by deforestation. Deforestation is cutting the plants in large number.

“Land pollution is Contamination of anything that makes Soil or Land dirty and unhealthy which is also harmful to biotic and abiotic components. Land pollution occurs when solid or liquid waste materials deposits on land or underground that can contaminate the soil and groundwater

Deforestation is not only responsible for increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere but it also deteriorating the balance of living organisms on the earth. It also decreases the amount of oxygen.

Land pollution
Land pollution

Due to the use of chemical fertilization land becoming barren and desert for nature. this land can not grow plants on it. the major cause of environmental pollution. is due to population growth.

2. Water Pollution

Water pollution

Water pollution is Contamination of anything that makes water dirty and unhealthy which is also harmful to biotic and abiotic components of the earth. water pollution occurs when toxic chemicals and Excessive biological agents deposits on water or underground water. water gets polluted by naturally and various human activities.

Water Pollution is increasing due to industrialization and urbanization. urbanization used to convert villages into developed cities establishment of various industries.

3. Air pollution

By using various activities and technical machines human is polluting the air also. In the environment, the amount of all types of gases is fixed. it maintains the equilibrium of all gases in nature, but due to some reason the number of gases is changing day by day, it polluting the environmental atmosphere.

Air pollution is Contamination or mixture of solid particles and various gases in the environmental air that makes it dirty and unhealthy which is also harmful to biotic and abiotic components of the earth. Air Pollution occurs when vapours of toxic chemicals, Fuels from Vehicles, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen grains from plants and mold spores mixed into the air. Smog is one of the very popular examples of Air Pollution can be seen in big Cities

The effect of air pollution can be seen immediately as compared to other pollutants. various types of poisonous gases are getting dissolved in the air, it immediately shows its effect on living organisms. Bhopal gas scandal is a very known example of air pollution.

4. Noise Pollution

Noise pollution happens when the sound coming from anywhere such as various types of planes, various machines using by industries etc. humans can’t see or smell noise pollution it can be heared by ear.

Noise Pollution

Stress-related illnesses are directly connected with noise pollution. high blood pressure, speech interference, hearing lose are some examples of noise pollution.

“Noise pollution is any unwanted or disturbing sound comes from anything which reduces the quality of life or disrupts daily activities. Popular examples of Noise pollutions are Traffic Sound, Sound of barking dogs, loudspeakers sound music, Aeroplanes sound, Thunder clouds etc. This pollution is completely invisible. we can only feel it by our ears. Noise above the 80 DB considered as noise pollution”

Underwater noise pollution is harmful to aquatic organisms such as fishes etc. underwater noise pollution comes from ships upset whales’ navigation systems. noise pollution kills other species also that depend on the natural underwater world. Noise also shorten the lifespan of aquatic species.

Environmental Pollution Control

If we want to make the world happy and healthy, we have to reduce different types of pollutions by adopting various technologies and ideas. These are some steps which are very important to follow.

Environmental pollution control
  • Population growth has to be stopped as soon as possible.
  • Deforestation for housing and other reasons must be stopped as soon as possible.
  • We have to do more and more plantations in big cities.
  • We have to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. we can replace it with organic fertilizers.
  • We have to reduce the use of pesticides to control harmful pests. we have to adopt biological control for this.
  • Different types of waste will have to be reused
  • We have to stop mixing of dirty water coming out of the factories directly into the river-drain,
  • We should not horn unnecessarily during riding.
  • We should shut down the engine and check the vehicle’s silencer regularly to control excessive diffusion of smoke when not needed during the riding.
  • Industrialists must raise the heights of chimneys of the industries. this will help a lot.
  • We should make people aware in an attractive way through their entertainment mediums. so that peoples will help to reduce pollutions.

Measures to prevent environmental pollution

  • We have to protect our environment by adopting different technologies and ideas.
  • we have to plant excessive trees in major and polluted cities.
  • We have to avoid Indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources.
  • We have to avoid the use of plastic items for our daily needs.
  • The garbage and waste will not have to be thrown in nature and natural resources. it must be recycled for future use.
  • We have to adopt different ways to conserve groundwater during rainy seasoning.
  • Use of solar panels, windmills should be increased.
  • We have to reduced use of petrol, diesel, coal to reduce air pollution.
